 | The Douglaston Salmon Run |
What is the Douglaston Salmon Run (DSR)? For those of you who don't know, it's a private controlled acess Sportfishery with 25,000 feet of the Salmon River Shoreline. Basically it's the first 2 1/2 mile stretch of the Salmon River NY. The DSR allows 350 fishermen daily in order to create a more pleasurable fishing expericne on the river. Anglers will each be charged an angling fee per person per day on a first come first serve basis. Property acess hours and fees will be posted and recorded on their hotline (315) 298-3531 and website, http://www.douglastonsalmonrun.com/conditions.asp. The Douglaston Salmon Run's goal is
to promote sport fishing through conservation and education, while providing a safe, clean and enjoyable fishing experience. In order to achieve this goal they ask their guests to respect the resource, other anglers, and the sport of angling. Anglers are asked to do no unnecessary harm to flora or fauna, be aware of how their actions will impact other anglers, and remember that the sport of angling is based upon the concept of "fair chase". River keepers are on the river daily to assist in their mission and aid in the enjoyment of your visit. There is a 3 fish total daily limit at the Douglaston Salmon Run and it's not to include more than 1 trout. Once you've caught your 3 fish limit, you may not continue to fish. All NYS regulations apply and are strictly enforced at the Douglaston Salmon Run. For more information you may contact Riverkeeper, Connie Rogers at www.dsrpulaski@aol.com or call (315) 298-6672.
In our opinion, it's the best place to be in the beginning of Salmon Season since it's the first 2 1/2 mile stretch of the river. This is where all the Chinook Salmon, Coho Salmon, Brown Trout, Skamania Steelhead, Rainbow Trout, and Steelhead pass through and they're as fresh as can be having just come from Lake Ontario. So when you come to Pulaski NY, give the Douglaston Salmon Run a try! Remember, opening day is August 19, 2006. We hope to see you there!
