Catching Report: 10-27-07 Salmon River Pulaski NY

GeneralA tough couple of days on the Salmon River in Pulaski NY due to rain and leaves in the river for some to most anglers and drift boat guides. With the help and instruction of Guide Mike, our lodging guest, Buddy McGuckin caught a gorgeous 10 lb. brown trout out back behind our shop.  Another unknown angler caught a gorgeous trophy domestic rainbow trout in the 10-12 lb. range on Friday.  He chose to have it

mounted with Rome Taxidermy......and a good choice at that....he brought it to our shop and Guide Mike took a picture of it.  Wait till you see it folks, it's beautiful!  All pictures will be in my gallery tomorrow. It's been busy for us at the shop and we're helping our shop customers with tips and tactics.  So, please stop in if you'd like to learn some secrets.  You must be a shop customer.  Please, no "Shop Hoppers"......this means:  we're busy helping those who support us.  We can't stand people who go from shop to shop trying to pump for free information.  We work very hard for our expert information and it's not free.  So please, shop hop somewhere else or go ask Wal-Mart, Gander Mountain, Dick's Sporting Goods, or the Gas Stations where the fish are and how to catch them........thanks.  If you don't like our attitude, then don't come or call.....it's really pretty simple.
Once the weather breaks and the leaves flush downstream, it should be a bit easier for the average angler. Our Drift Boat Guides are loving the higher water levels and it's not an issue for them or their clients.  We hear the water level will increase to 1000 cfs. by Monday and while it's a bit high, it's still fishable.....just fish the edges and don't bother stepping into the river.  Once you do this, you scare all the fish just sitting there.....out to the middle and up or downstream....where ever they want to go.  Bottom line:  Don't step in the water as much as you're dying to do it.  Otherwise, you WON'T catch fish.  This is why it's a good idea to support our local business so you can find out secrets like this.  Minimum wage workers at the larger competitors don't have a clue.
