Guide Mike was out with clients, Pat & Dave today and they caught some nice steelhead trout and one nice domestic rainbow trout. They said they saw some fresh coho salmon enter the Salmon River and blast right past them. It's not unusual for this time of year to see fresh coho & king salmon come in the Salmon River NY. Every Lake Ontario NY tributary is getting a run of salmon and some brown trout and steelhead trout are in the mix. This is a great time to
come fishing because there are no crowds. The fishing pressure is light during the weekdays and a bit moderate on the weekends but not like the height of the season. The anglers that are out and about now seem to be a bit more respectable and the ones that come and trash the Salmon River during the peak times of September and the first 3 weeks of October are gone. So, there's room to fish and it's nice and quiet. The fall foliage is in it's peak and while there are leaves in the river, they're not as bad as they were last Saturday when it rained. We're due to get another major leaf fall and that will make the fishing difficult but you know what? It's still great because when you do hook into a steelhead, and it jumps and leaps, it's ALL worth it. Come by our shop and find out where the good fishing is and what to use. We know some fresh salmon spots if you still want to hook into a 20+ pounder!
