It's a rainy day here in Pulaski NY and the steelhead fishing is at it's best. Our lodging guests from NH, Corey Daniels and Bill Potter are out back behind our shop fishing as I type this report. Corey said he had 4 on yesterday and today he lost a BIG one and also landed a nice 10 pounder that he chose to keep. It's his "Once a year steelhead" from the Salmon River NY. So good for you Corey....it's your sportsman's right to do
so. Thanks for letting the other 4 go yesterday. Bill on the other hand seems to be having less success and I'm not sure why since I"ve been taking care of errands and just have not had the time to speak with him. I took a drive up to Pineville and looked over the bridge. Saw a spey fisherman standing in a prime fishing hole....exactly where the steelhead "would" be if he weren't standing right there. This is why it's a great idea to hire one of our guides. You can learn where the "Secret" holes are....the ones that no one would figure on....like this angler.....and later he may or may not be in my shop and if I see him and he says he din't catch anything today I'll tell him why. It's because you're standing where the fish are......in the water!!! A good tip is this: when you first get to the river, stand there, count to 10 and start casting BEFORE you step into the water. You do not have to become "one with the river" to catch fish. Just underhand toss your line out and hey, hold on cause "WHAM".....it could be your once in a lifetime steelhead you're looking for.....just like this one........

There's a ton of steelhead in the Salmon River NY and that's why everyone's coming here to fish. The creeks out west are dry from what I here and this is by far the BEST steelhead season we've had since we can remember. If you can fish, then you can catch.
