 | Catching Steelhead With My New Fly Rod |
Dawn, You are going to love this story! It was nice out on the 28th of December so I decided to head out and try fishing the Salmon River for the afternoon. I headed up the to the UFZ but it was packed so I headed back downstream behind your fly & tackle shop. There was someone fishing in my favorite spot but he was casting a spining rod with about 30 pounds of weight on it out into
the very fast current. I wanted to go tell him he was casting right over the fish but I decided just to fish another spot. After about a half hour he had only caught bottom a few times and gave up. I walked right up to where he was standing and within ten casts (into the slower water near the bank) hooked this nice NY Steelhead. It was the first fish on my new fly rod I got for Christmas and it was on an egg pattern I tied myself. Just thought you would like the story since you are always telling people behind your shop they need to fish the inside of the pool rather than way out in the fast water. There are also a couple pictures of some crazy guys in kayaks that came down just as I was leaving. The steelhead was released, Wayne Thanks for the nice photo Wayne and I'm so glad you were able to pull a steelhead out of my pool behind my shop....and to catch it with your new fly rod....GREAT! Keep the pictures and stories coming!
