 | Fish The Kenai River In Alaska |
The sockeye salmon fishing on the Kenai River is absolutely fantastic. You have to hit it just right. When they come in, they come in. I'm talking thousands at a time. One day it was 68,000 and a blind man could catch his limit in 1/2 hour! They fight great and are nice and chrome, right from the ocean. Their meat is bright orange and tastes delicious. The local netters and long liners call it
"Red Gold" and currently the sockeye salmon is selling for $1.15 a pound (whole, head-on weight) to the fish processing companies. This is the best tasting salmon next to the King Salmon. I will bring some home to Pulaski, NY vaccuumed sealed. This picture was taken while fishing on the Kenai River in downtown Soldotna, Alaska. It's a public fishing area provided by the Sate of Alaska. It's combat fishing at it's finest and shoulder to shoulder just like Pulaski, NY in it's high salmon season. RV's come from all over and tour Alaska and where there's fish, there's crowds, and where there's crowds, there's garbage. Yes, it's here too. Alaska has litter along it's river's banks and idiots leave their fishing line, soda & beer cans, and tackle supply baggies of hooks and split shot. It's a shame. I'll write more in a story later. For now i have to get some zzz's as I will be going sockeye fishing once again tomorrow morning. More later from the last Frontier!
