 | Fishing Report: Salmon River Pulaski NY 13142 |
It's Thursday August 28, 2008 and we're preparing to open our fly and tackle shop for this fall's salmon run. We're behind but we're plugging along nicely. The report for today is this: Harry, from PA, a friend of Brant's who owns the Salmon River Sports Shop across the street landed a 20 pound King Salmon this evening. He said he broke off a
bunch and only managed to land the one. What's a bunch? I didn't ask. Sorry. Anyways, Brant said that he can see some Kings moving upstream from his apartment window. It's like this every year. Some, not hundreds or thousands. The water level is releasing at 750 cfs and the actual flow at Pineville Gauge is 808 cfs. It's perfect if you ask me. The temperature? I'm not sure but Whitaker's says it's in the 60's. You'll have to check their site. Soon I will make some time to post more reports so you'll have to hang in there. Yes, our web cam will be on soon. Thanks for your patience. THe weather forecast looks fine. Suppose to rain on Fri & Saturday but that's okay because rain brings in salmon and steelhead....maybe some brown trout too? Sunday and Monday look to be sunny and hot so bring your breathables folks and not your neoprenes. You'll get "Salmon River Itchy Ass" and/or "Monkey Butt" as some like to call it. Either way it's gross! Bring Gold Bond medicated powder if you have neoprene waders or better yet, buy a pair of breathables from us! The Sunrise is 6:24 am and the Sunset is at 7:46 pm and the day length is 13 hours and 22 minutes. The biggest NY Chinook (King) Salmon caught so far on Lake Ontario is 35.12 pounds out of Olcott, NY. Next is 33.09, Oswego, then 33.03, Point Breeze, and 32.14 from Mexico Bay.....hey that's us!!! So, we're in the top four on the Leaderboard. The link is on my front page of my website if you want to click on it and check out the standings. That's it for now. Have to go eat some dinner. I'm doing the best I can folks and even though it's a very busy time of year for me and I have a lot going on personally, I still can't wait to see all my fishing friends!
FLASH FLASH FLASH FLASH !!!!! Guide Tony and his son, Michael just saw a King Salmon jump out of the Town Pool behind my shop and it had a lamprey eel on it. He said it jumped five times. So, that means it's FRESH!!! For those of you who do not know about lamprey eels, well, they stick to the sides of the salmon and the salmon do whatever they can to get them off. They're kinda like our shop customers who come in wanting information and are already outfitted.
