  The weather is pretty cold in Upstate NY and we have a bunch of new snow on the ground making it difficult for anglers to access favorite fishing holes. It's so cold up here that if you're fishing for NY Steelhead on the Salmon River NY, you
better be taking it home to eat because any steelhead caught right now during these cold temperatures is DEAD. So for all you anglers out there that say they're practicing "Catch & Release", you're full of bullsh*t and you don't know what you're talking about. It's more like "Catch, Kill, & Release". Hey, I don't mind if you keep your one fish steelhead limit, just don't try and bs me. Thanks! So, the report is this: Go ICE Fishing in Oswego County NY and wait until we get a warm up on the Salmon River NY and give the steelhead a break. When the weather gets 35 degrees (or higher), then hit the river. For now, stay inside and tie up some flies!

DURING THE COLD WINTER MONTHS & BELOW 35 degrees, KEEP THE FISH (STEELHEAD, BROWN TROUT, or RAINBOW TROUT) IN THE WATER VS. HOLDING IT UP FOR A PICTURE. YOU CAN STILL TAKE A GREAT PICTURE WITH THE FISH IN THE WATER. THIS WAY YOU CAN POSSIBLY CATCH THAT SAME FISH LATER!
1. Do not put fish on snow bank
2. Do not put your fingers in the gills
3. If you see blood, it's DEAD...take it home to cook it up!
4. Do not drop the fish (on a rock or on land)
5. Carry a pair of pliers or forceps to quickly remove the hook, hold by the tail and snap you picture!
6. Do not push fish forward and backwards in the water, simply hold it and it will swim off when it's ready!
