The Steelhead fishing on the Salmon River in Pulaski NY continues to produce fish bigger than your fingers and despite the cold temperatures, anglers are getting out and fishing. This particular day was extremely cold and a local Salmon River NY Drift Boat Guide, Tony G., decided to take a few hours for himself and try to catch some steel. He put his hood up and walked to a good spot where he fought and landed three winter New York Steelhead. This was his
third catch and after he released it he immediately casted his line to see if there were anymore friends of this nice steelhead waiting for his next drift. Because his peripheral vision was obstructed by his sweatshirt hood and his hearing was compromised by the howling of the cold Pulaski NY winter winds, he didn't realize there was an angler just ten feet above him, upstream. All he saw was this line drift right in front of where he was fishing and that's what prompted him to take a look upstream. He felt a little embarrassed because he thought he was alone and was enjoying "goofing" on the steelhead he battled (talking out loud, saying things to the steelhead, laughing to himself and to the steelhead, etc.). Ultimately he decided it wasn't worth saying anything to this angler and he shook his head in disgust and moved on to another place to fish. Now if you all know me, I would have handled it much differently! After talking about it, Tony & I agreed that the guy is either 1. a complete a$$hole and doesn't care whether he's in someone's fishing space, or 2. he simply got "Steelhead Fever" and couldn't take it anymore and had to give it a try after seeing Tony G. catch & land three steelhead in "THAT SPOT". What's your thought....#1 or #2? Email me and let me know because I thought Steelhead Anglers were a bit more ethical and considerate unlike some Fall Salmon Anglers who fight for a spot to fish.
