 | Fishing for Steelhead in March: What to expect |
When people call and ask what to expect during the month of March I tell them the following: 1. Fresh Steelhead enter the Salmon River in March and there are other steelhead that have been in the Salmon River since September. You will have uneducated and unmolested
(fresh) steelhead to play with along with ones that have run the gauntlet of anglers....these typically are dark in color. 2. The weather will be in the 30's to possilbe 50's. All in all, prepare to be dressed warm and have clothing that wicks. March weather can be unpredictable but you can count on the month of March to be considered a "winter month". 3. Stonefly hatches 4. River levels could rise in 24 hrs. with melting snow or rain and because of this it's always a good bet/gamble to have an experienced high water Salmon River New York drift boat guide and the same goes for the month of April. Keep in mind, not "all" guides can handle high river levels above 2000 cfs. Some guides are older or may have back issues and not able to row a drift boat in these conditions. We have guides that are physically able and confident to handle these unexpected conditions. Your safety is #1 to us and we actually prefer the higher river levels. It keeps us busy without much competition! 5. March 13th there will be a Corned Beef & Cabbage as well as a Chicken-N-Bisquit Dinner from 5-7 pm at St.James Church on 24 Lake Street next to the Pulaski NY Fire Department. Dinners are $7.50 for adults and $5 for Seniors & Children. Homemade desserts are included by the parish members and are to die for! 6. Daylight Savings Time on March 14th 7. St. Patrick's Day on March 17th 8. Our lodging facilities will be open March 26th
