Met you at Gander Mountain one day,I was the archery tech , and talked to you about your business. You told me to send you a picture of the first fish I caught in the salmon river this year , so here it is s 31inch king caught today around 1:30 pm.
Thanks, Ed Clark Sent from my Verizon Wireless 4GLTE smartphone
For everyone calling and asking, "Are there any Salmon in the river?", here's your answer. How many? Well, no one really knows that. It's the beginning of the salmon run and this is typical this time of year, "Early Kings". There's always King Salmon that make their way upstream whenever we get some rain or wind. The weather that's happening in other states such as the hurricane in VA will also effect our salmon run so each day is another day closer to the BIG run, or the "Motherload" as we locals call it. Everyone wants to experience that however it's difficult if you don't live here. A general rule of thumb is this: Sept. 15-Oct.15 is the bulk of run. Before can be good too and after always is. It's a very small window of opportunity and the only thing we can tell you is if you want crowds of people and more fish, come during our PEAK time and if you don't, come NOW until around Sept. 15.
Pick your dates and stick to them otherwise follow the reports online and see for yourself. Please do not call the shop for reports. All reports will be online. The shop phone and my personal cell phone are for reservations only. Thank you for understanding.
The hatchery reported there were some brown trout in the fish ladder but no King Salmon yet. There were some that entered the Salmon River NY about a week ago, yesterday and lastnight. There are some behind our shop in my pool. Lastnight, full time local drift boat guide, TonyG. saw one jump at dark while he was relaxing riverside. With the way the economy is, people are waiting until they hear the salmon are in in BIG numbers however do keep in mind that once it gets posted on the internet, the crowds will follow.
If you're within an hours drive and you have a few hours to spare, come on up and fish for KING Salmon on the run in the late afternoon until dark. Remember, you can fish 1/2 hour after sunset and the sun is setting around 7:48 pm. So, add 1/2 hour onto that!
Upcoming events: Aug. 27: DSR (Douglaston Salmon Run) opens for business at 6:00 am. Admission is $45 per person except for kids under 16, they're free. Sept. 2-5: Labor Day Weekend and supposedly a white water release of 750 cfs however I'm not so sure that's going to happen because the resivoir is low. This release is for the whitewater rafters, paddlers, kayakers, etc. and our "OFFICIAL KICKOFF TO 2011 SALMON SEASON" EVERY FRIDAY: 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm Pulaski NY Farmer's Market with music, wine, produce, & family fun. Located in the South Park in sight of my place....just walk up the bridge and enjoy the Friday Fun! All summer long until the end of September. HATCHERY: The Salmon River NY Fish Hatchery located at: 2133 County Route 22, Altmar NY 13302 (315) 298-5051, HOURS: 8:30 am to 3:30 pm DAILY. Salmon Egg Take is typically mid October, call ahead during mid October. Exact dates cannot be given. LFZ: Lower Fly Fishing Zone will reopen Sept. 15 and continue through May 15. From County Route 52 bridge in Altmar NY upstream 0.25 mile to the marked boundary at Beaverdam Brook. Catch & Release Only. Please refer to your NYS Regulations booklet, pages 28,29,30.

Avoid the $100 fine from the NYS DEC and learn how to catch salmon right in the mouth! We teach how to rig, cast & present, fight, land, and hold a King Salmon. It's totally worth it for $99!!!
