Salmon River NY, Fishing Trips - Guided & Drift Boat
Guided Fishing Trips
There are two types of guided trips that Yankee Fly
Guide Service offers for the Salmon River New York and Lake Ontario Tributaries:
Drift boat & Streamside.
You can legally fish
1/2 hr before sunrise and 1/2 hr after sunset in New York State. All guided
trips include the use of our finest tackle, bait and or flies.
We have early private access to the
Douglaston Salmon Run (DSR) which is the first 2 mile section of the Salmon
River. We do not charge extra for our private access passes (as some
outfitters do), they are included in our trip price. The DSR is a premiere
fishing area with 25,000 feet of Salmon River shoreline. The DSR's goal is
to promote sport fishing through conservation and education, while providing a
safe, clean and enjoyable fishing experience. They abide by NYS Rules
& Regulations and have their own set as well. Stream cleats (Korkers)
are strongly suggested and mandatory beginning November 1. Daily
Angler Access Fee : $25 from August 19 to December 31, 2006. For more
information about the DSR you can call (315) 298-6672.
What is a Drift Boat fishing trip?
(Watch
Video) A guide will take you down the river (water
level permitting, must be at least 335 cfs). Definitely an
exciting way to see and travel the river without having to do a lot
of walking. Comfortable, safe, and a way to access difficult streamside spots. Drift
boats are heated in the winter months. Please
make sure you checkout our drift boat fishing video.
What is a streamside fishing
trip? (Watch Video) Where a guide will take
you along the bank of the river. One must be physically
able to walk/hike with waders and cleats. A great way to learn how to
access certain spots on the river and have future references. Please make sure you check
out our streamside fishing video. We do fish small tributaries
of Lake Ontario if you're looking for some future spots to fish.

-
Drift boat or Streamside: Prices are
Only:
$250 based on 1 person $350 based on 2 persons $500
based on 3 persons add $100 extra if you want a "NO TIME LIMIT TRIP" (Basically go
until you beg your guide to stop. Can be from Sun up to Sun down) take
$100 off our price if you book 2 or more days in a row with us
a lunch for your fishing guide is required
Why? Because our fishing guides are the best and they deserve to be
fed. Other parts of the United States, typically out west, the fishing
guides there provide a streamside lunch however they charge you for the
bait/flies. That can add up and become very costly. So, for $5
or less you feed our guides and they provide all the bait/flies for you.
Sounds like a better deal and it is. We'll let you know what each TOP
GUIDE likes whether it's a breakfast or a lunch. We thank you for
understanding and for making our guides happy. They work their butts
off!
Examples: Breakfast: Dunkin Donuts Coffee, Blueberry
Muffin, Bacon/Egg/Cheese Bagel
Lunch: Rare Roast Beef on a Roll, Bag of Chips, Gatorade/Orange
So, as you can see from the examples above, it's a simple request.
Some guides eat pretty much anything however I like to make sure they get
what they want. You do not have to provide BOTH lunch and breakfast.
Just one. Dunkin Donuts is always open early in the morning and as for
lunch, the P&C grocery store located on Route 13 off the Pulaski, NY Exit
36, is open until 7 pm. This would be their deli department if you
want to pick up some Rare Roast Beef or Ham and Cheese. Soggy gas
station sandwiches are not acceptable.
- Lake Charter:
Salmon - Steelhead - Brown Trout - Lake Trout - Walleye - Bass MAY, JUNE, JULY, AUGUST, SEPTEMBER | $400 (4 hr.) | 1-4 persons | $120 extra person | | $500 (6 hr.) | Same | Same | | $600 (8 hr.) | Same | Same | |
$700 (10 hr.) | Same | Same |
All tackle, bait & flies are included. A
lunch is required for your captain.

Guide Referral Program: If
we are not available to do a trip, we will set you up with one of our endorsed
guides. Just tell us what you'd like to do or try and we will choose the
guide that's right for you. Our name is on the line and we
are confident that we can provide you with the service you expect. There is no additional
cost to you and we will be happy to set everything up for you. All of
our guides are licensed by the State of New York and are
Certified in CPR & First Aid. Some of our guides know the Oswego & Black River
and other areas within New York State that produce monster size fall brown
trout. Some of our guides use drift boats while others prefer to
guide streamside only. Some of our guides prefer fly fishing only while other guides
love to pull plugs and drift egg sacs. Some of our guides have early
private access to the Douglaston Salmon Run (DSR) and some do not. Some of our
guides work other parts of the country like New England, Florida, Virginia,
Maine, and even Alaska during other times of the year. Our "Top" guides
work FULL TIME and have no other source of income and are typically booked
first, hence the label "Full Timers" while other guides have full time jobs and
only work certain seasonal runs, hence the label, "Part Timers". Some of
our guides are Captains and can guide you on the ocean or lake. Just ask
about our Guide Referral Program and have us hand select the guide that's right
for you! We book Oswego Walleye trips, Oneida Lake Walleye trips, Lake
Ontario Salmon, Steelhead, Brown Trout, and Bass trips, Sandy Pond Bass &
Northern Pike trips, Western NY Monster Brown Trout (fall) trips, Summer Musky
Trips, and Islamorada Florida Keys trips.
Most Important Advice...Book your GUIDE
first and your LODGING second. Why? Because you can always find a
place to sleep but you can't always get a "Top" Guide on the date you want to
come. Discounts apply when lodging and guiding with us. Find out
details when booking.
Deposits:
Half of the total amount of your trip is required to reserve your date.
Refunds:
We will gladly refund your deposit in FULL with a 60-day
written notification. If you cancel with less than a 60-day written notice
and we can re-book your date, we will still refund you your deposit minus a $25
administration fee. Otherwise, if we cannot re-book your scheduled date,
there will be absolutely NO REFUNDS.
Guide Cancellations:
Yankee Fly & Tackle Guide Service reserves the right to
cancel trips at any time due to weather, water level, and fishing conditions.
Since weather can change on a flip of a dime, we may have to cancel 1-2 days
before your scheduled trip. We cannot predict much further ahead and thank
you for your understanding. Should this happen, another date will be
scheduled or a refund will be issued.
Trip Prices:
Guided trip prices are subject to change at anytime without notice.
Guided trip prices DO NOT include gratuities and are never refused and highly
recommended whether you catch fish or not. Bottom line...if your guide was
decent, friendly, and taught you at least one thing, tipping is the right thing
to do. How much? That is totally up to you and your experience.
Tips vary from $20-$100 or the standard 20% like when in a restaurant.
Fish Limits:
Please refer to your regulation booklet. We do encourage "Catch and
Release" for future fishing, however we are not "Extremists" and if you want to
eat or mount your catch, it's up to you. We trust you'll use your best
judgment. Our drift boat guides do not keep fish under their limit.
You are only allowed limits for yourself and your party. You cannot
include your drift boat guide's.
Recommended Item Check List:
- Your sense of humor!
Seriously, we like to have a fun time and we love to hear all types of
jokes and funny stories. We can't stand "uptight people" and if you are,
please call the other outfitter! Like the sign says in our shop,
"NO WHINERS".
Buy Local:
We prefer if you buy from us since we
can supply you with priceless information. Our prices are just as good (if
not better) than the bigger competitors. Besides, will they know where the
fish are?
We will be happy to video your fishing trip
with your video equipment and we will also take pictures of you & your fish with
our many years of experience of taking perfect snapshots.
While we prefer you use our equipment, you may bring your own. Please let
us know ahead of time what you will be bringing. All information regarding
equipment, bait, and flies will be provided upon receipt of deposit. Thank
you for understanding.
